So it's technically our SecondAnnual Drink-a-Thon, but we got rained-out last year and couldn't do it, and we'd hate to be accused of more false advertising (more on that shortly). That means that this Fourth of July, The B-Raters' First Annual Drink-a-Thon will commence -- during which, we will be viewing Julie Strain in the Andy Sidaris film, Fit to Kill, along with our annual viewing of Sleepaway Camp.
We have an entire schedule filled with films, but we have been unable to coordinate everyone's schedules to allow more of The B-Raters to attend regularly. We've all also experienced changes in living conditions, experienced technical issues, and similar everyday problems that have prevented us from being able to hold the show regularly or release all of the episodes we've filmed.
So we've decided to take a more holistic approach, and only riff films irregularly. This is no guarantee that any more of us will be able to appear regularly, just that the films we do riff will be more fun when we can watch them. They'll still be awful movies, though -- that doesn't change.
The B-Raters' National Streaming Day B-Movie Marathon
We do a handful of marathons each year, although we haven't always had them go as planned. A few years back, Roku deemed May 20th "National Streaming Day," and -- because The B-Raters is a streaming show -- we've decided it's close enough to a legitimate holiday for our purposes. Unfortunately, we were unable to celebrate it last year.
The B-Raters' First Annual National Streaming Day B-Movie Marathon starts this Friday at 5:00pm (Central), and features only two movies: Tarzan's Revenge and Wolfcop. Because we schedule months in advance, films we plan to watch sometimes disappear before we get to them, so Wolfcop is tentative (if unavailable, it will be replaced). Tarzan's Revenge is in the Public Domain, and will be available.
As noted, The B-Raters' National Streaming Day B-Movie Marathon is an annual event which may include more than two movies in the future. For technical reasons, each movie will be recorded as a separate live event. The link for each will be prominently featured prior to the marathon. Check the website for scheduling changes and other Events information.
After recording our live events for the last two years, we are amassing quite the collection. Some of the movies we watch are rotated according to season, holiday, or some other element - like The B-Raters vs. April Fool's Day, which is only available for a limited time (every year).
This was one of the first slashers Chris ever saw, so it holds some sentimental value, but it's also a pretty decent flick (plot holes and all). Of course, The B-Raters ruin it by shitting all over the film the whole way through.
We're trying to catch-up on our beauty sleep this week, so instead of our regularly-scheduled live event, we offer this old riff of the holiday slasher classic, April Fools Day (1986). As we do not broadcast the actual movies, you may be hard-pressed to find a copy of this film (much less the print we used, which was streamed from Netflix), but you should definitely try! April Fools Day is one of the more clever slasher flicks of the era.
Last year, we ran our first annual Halloween marathon. We gathered for some digital candy and watched three horror flicks back to back. We had just enough fun that we decided to do it again this year.
